BREAKING THE CURSE

BREAKING THE CURSE
To break the Curse we need to answer seven pertinent questions

What is a curse?

The world says it like this, “Like father like son.” The Word of God says it like this, “The iniquity of the father passes on from generation to generation.” Many times we translate the word “iniquity” as “sin.” But it’s not the sin that passes on from generation to generation. It’s the curse, the penalty. A curse is a spirit that passes from generation to generation until someone finally figures out how to stop it in Jesus’ name.  - Many of us are locked into patterns of sinful behavior because of generational curses. But because Jesus paid the full price for your freedom, your family's tainted past doesn't have to pull you down.  (Larry Huch)

The Bible says: "Confess your faults one to another…”KJV) James 5:16. The word "fault" can mean a crack or a flaw in your life, character, personality lying beneath the surface. Faults are not the superficial weaknesses seen from time to time. They are those hidden, underlying cracks beneath the surface that rise up under the right pressure and circumstances. These cracks are curses.

How do curses come?

A curse without a cause doesn’t come.” If there is something blocking the blessing it may be an inherited curse. For example, in a family down the generations only males born; male deaths around the age forty; There has to be a door opened up the generation line to cause this.

Curses come through open doors of involvement in the occult, witchcraft, Satanism, manipulation, intimidation, domination of others, yoga, TM, idolatry, false religions, freemasonry, sorcery, astrology, palmistry, numerology, divination, new age practices, disobedience to God’s Word, sexual perversion, dishonoring parents or those in authority, failure to tithe, and so on.

God has given us a powerful tongue. We are the ones who choose to use or abuse it, to bless or curse with it. There is power in what we say! Since infancy we have been used to hearing others call us names and we have done it to others too. - Stupid” ‘Senseless;’ ‘Fatty;’ ‘Weakling;’ Curses have power for evil just as blessings have power for good., What you and I need to learn is how to bless others, and how to break the power of curse over our lives.

The words of our parents in particular are powerful in our lives, because they were our first authority figures, delegated by God over us, next comes other authority figures. There is a divine blessing that comes with honoring parents Exo20:12. The Parents should not fail to bless their children

Prov18:21says, “Death and life are in the power of the tongue…”     Prov12:18 says, “There is one who speaks like the piercing of a sword, but the tongue of the wise promotes health.”
There are three kinds of curses:- Self-inflicted by one's own words; Inflicted by others; Generational curses.
In the Old Testament Moses addressed this issue with the new generation of Israelites preparing to enter the Promised Land to deal with personal and ancestral sins Lev26:39-42. Deut28 tells us that blessings are for obedience and curses for disobedience.

Why do curses come?

In the Garden of Eden God intended man to live in abundance, but the ground became cursed with thorns and thistles. The Bible says that sometimes the Word gets thrown amidst thorns which are symbolic of the curse. The weeds and thorns choke the Word and block the blessing. We have to break the curse then the blessing will come. Many sow seed in the area of finances and do not see a breakthrough because of curses.
Sin blinds and binds. Willful persistent sinning constructs a stronghold a nesting place for curses.
Some Christians reason, "I thought that all the past is under the blood when I received Jesus as my Saviour!" As far as salvation and eternal destiny is concerned, that is true.   But our enemy loves to cause us grief when sins connected to our lives (personal or generational) have not been dealt with through repentance, confession and pleading the Blood.

What do curses bring forth?

They destroy your future, marriage, ministry and blessing God has for you. They cause much grief and can bring failure, shame, sickness and even physical death. They do not impose eternal judgment but bring bondage in an individual's life, reducing its effectiveness so that he lives a mediocre life of lesser value, till he addresses sin issues that invited these curses in. Curses are the invisible blocks to healing, deliverance, or salvation.

A curse doesn’t mean that we are bad; a curse means something bad is happening to us which is blocking our blessings. The Lord reveals these areas to us because he wants us to be free from the legal claims of the enemy over our lives so that we can excel in quality and freedom in our new life in Christ. Exo34:6-7 -Deut11:26-28

How do curses operate?

In an earthquake zone though everything on the surface– buildings, homes, market place, seems to be fine, there may be flaws, geological faults lying dormant in the earth crust hidden beneath the surface which under certain circumstances could move and cause destruction to the once-perfect surface. In the same way flaws or faults lying hidden within a personality can erupt under circumstances causing havoc in the life of the person and misery to others as well.
Many people speak of cancer that keeps passing down from generation to generation. This is a curse like other curses in the world. Jesus died on the cross to break every curse so that God’s people could be a glorious bride without spot or wrinkle.
How does one know if one is under a curse?

Here are some signs:  - Multiple [repeated] mental/ emotional breakdowns, depression, chronic sickness, accidents, family members practicing fornication or other repetitive sins, marital and family problems,  barrenness, miscarriage, divorce, continued financial insufficiency, business failures, accident prone, repetitive accidents or injuries, particularly of the same type, history of suicide and unnatural or untimely deaths, alcoholism, misfortunes, personal performance at work or home hampered despite one's best efforts, chronic strife or arguments with interpersonal relationships; poor eating or sleeping habits in infants or children, inability to conceive children and so on.
There are spirits and curses operating in different cultures, cities, and races. This can also happen to people reading this article.

How can we free ourselves from the curse?
When Jesus asked His disciples, “But who do you say that I am?” [Mt16] - Peter said, “You are the Christ,” meaning the anointed one of God who removes burdens and breaks yokes.” The burden is the wages of sin and death. The yoke is the curse passing from generation to generation because of sin. Jesus forgives our sin but also breaks every generational curse.  The one who sins [repeatedly] is yoked to that sin. He is cursed. But Knowing Him [the way the truth and the life] and knowing the truth of His Word can set you free Jn8: 32, 36
The first step in breaking the curse is to understand and affirm that Jesus died to forgive your sin so you can have every curse broken because Jesus redeemed you from the curse of the law with his blood on the cross - “cursed is every one that hangs on a tree.” At the whipping post he took thirty nine stripes shedding his blood. By his stripes we are healed. But while we pray for people to be healed, we must pray for the curse to be broken.
You might deliver someone from an evil spirit but if there is a curse involved which is not broken the spirit can come back. Jesus said you send the demon out but it comes back in and finds the door still open and you are worse than you were before.
In the book of Leviticus we are told that they took the blood of a lamb and sprinkled it on the mercy seat seven times. We must know that the blood redeems us. Jesus shed his own blood in seven different places.
Garden of Gethsemane “And being in anguish, he prayed more earnestly, and his sweat was like drops of blood falling to the ground.” Lk22:44
He was in such agony of spirit that His sweat fell to the ground as drops of blood. It is here where he said, “Father not my will but yours be done.”

Adam and Eve were in the Garden of Eden a land that flowed with milk and honey. They lived in abundance. But when they were sent away because of disobedience God cursed the ground with thorns and thistles, symbolizing poverty. By the sweat of his brow he had to earn his living. When Jesus was sentenced to death he had to wear a crown of thorns that caused his brow to bleed and the curse of poverty was broken. Application of the redeeming blood of the Lamb breaks the curse.

Adam surrendered his dominion to Satan in the Garden of Eden. Jesus paid for our dominion over Satan in the Garden of Gethsemane. The first time Jesus shed His Blood in the Garden of Gethsemane was for our mental anguish. No longer do we have to suffer stress. Apply his shed Blood to your mind and be free of stress.

Whipping Post: “But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.” Isaiah 53:5
He shed his blood again when he received thirty-nine stripes at the whipping post. [There are thirty-nine known root diseases worldwide]. By His stripes we are healed. Jesus paid for our healing by his stripes.

Under the Skin: “But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.” Isaiah 53:5 - Jesus was beaten and bruised. He bled on the inside [under the skin] for our iniquity (inherited weakness in a person's nature). He paid for our iniquities so we don't have to pass them on to our children.
Curses could be passed down from generation to generation Exo20:5 or they could be curses spoken or placed over you Prov18:21. Regardless of how the curses were placed on you, Jesus' Blood was shed for them all.
Crown of Thorns: “By the sweat of your brow you will eat your food; through painful toil you will eat of it all the days of your life.” Gen3:19
Jesus wore a crown of thorns that caused His brow to bleed paying the price for the ‘curse of poverty’ to be broken. Jn19: 2

Spikes in His Hands: Jesus was crucified. He shed blood from his hands when he was nailed to the cross. He paid the price for our inheritance. We have authority in his Name.
Ga4:4-5 “But when the time had fully come, God sent His Son, born of a woman, born under the law, to redeem those under the law, that we might receive the full rights of sons.”

Spikes in His Feet: Jesus was crucified. He shed blood from his feet when he was nailed to the cross. He paid the price for our peace. You have his promise – he will never leave you nor forsake you.
Deut31:6 “...the Lord your God goes with you; He will never leave you nor forsake you

Spear in His Side: Jesus shed his blood from his side where the spear pierced him; both blood and water came from him – signifying that his heart burst. He paid the price to heal the broken hearted.
Lk4: 18: “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because He has anointed me to preach the good news to the poor. He has sent me to heal the brokenhearted…”

To break curses there must be repentance of intentional or non-intentional statements made; Satan must be bound; Verbal proclamations made against the curse in the Name of Jesus; Pleading the Blood; Blessings affirmed over the person involved
Generational curses are broken when the specific sin[s] of all ancestors on both sides of one’s family [which brought the generational curses] are confessed, (the curse can be known through ‘discerning of spirits’] repented of, and forgiveness requested.

Here is how you can be set free from the curse:
·        Recognize the Curse
·        Rupture [Break] the Curse
·        Reverse the Curse
·        Release God’s Agape Love
·        Renew a Godly Attitude
·        Realign  Your Words with God’s Word
·        Realize God Accepts You the Way You Are
·        Retain Your Walk of Obedience

Recognize the Curse
Admit you have a problem. Take responsibility for choices and decisions you have made.

Rupture [Break] the Curse
Give your life to Jesus; Keep your spiritual armor ‘on’ Eph6; Regain control over your will. Jesus shed his blood to bring it back to you. Fight the good fight of faith.

Repent and confess to God sin categories [personal and ancestral] –idolatry, occultism, witchcraft, Satanism, sexual sins, addictions, fear, pride, unbelief, and so on.

Ask the Lord’s help in making the sin list, repenting, renouncing, and confessing them. Forgive and ask forgiveness.

Renounce Satan’s claim on your life in the name of Jesus Christ.

Confess your faults to other believers - these faults [cracks] lying beneath the surface of our personality be it anger, lust, depression, accident-proneness, suicide etc James5: 16.  When the Bible says to confess these things, we need to do just that as God is trying to bring deliverance and spiritual healing. And we know that others too have their faults. When you confess these faults and are prayed over by other believers you can expect healing.

Plead the Blood of Jesus over the seven areas: - Will; Health; Prosperity; Dominion over things; Dominion over places you walk; Joy; Inner healing.

When you put the Blood of Jesus on the same seven places where he shed His blood, and on the door of your family, then that curse cannot come back in anymore. You will see instant miracles. The seven places Jesus shed His Blood are very important. Which are these seven places and what can we claim?

Jesus Won Back Our Willpower at Gethsemane,
Jesus' Won Back Our Health by Stripes He bore at the Whipping Post Jesus' Crown of Thorns Won Back Our Prosperity
Jesus' Pierced Hands Won Back Dominion Over Things We Touch
Jesus' Pierced Feet Won Back Dominion Over Places We Walk
Jesus' Pierced Heart Won Back Our Joy
Jesus' Bruises Won Our Deliverance from Inner Hurts and Iniquities

When the high priest sacrificed an animal, he shed the blood of the animal (Symbolic of Jesus) and then sprinkled the blood to cleanse it (Symbolic of us). Christ shed his Blood for us at seven different places. The blood has effect when it is sprinkled (or applied) on us personally and individually.
My sins are cleansed by the Blood, but I have also been delivered from them. When I do fall short, I can simply accept and apply his shed Blood and move on in complete forgiveness. As a result I can live in holiness.
     Reverse the Curse

Deut30: 15-20 Blessings or curses you can choose. However, note          that God’s blessing for faithfulness lasts a thousand generations.

Prov18:21 says, “Death and life are in the power of the tongue…” Prov12:18 says, “There is one who speaks like the piercing of a sword, but the tongue of the wise promotes health.”

What do you do when you are cursed, when someone spreads lies about you, or does you deliberate harm? Are you free to retaliate by pronouncing a curse on them? NO, you’re not to do so. God wants us never to curse another but rather to bless Rom12: 14

The words of our parents in particular are powerful in our lives, [negative or positive] because they were our first authority figures, delegated by God over us, next comes other authority figures. It is essential for Fathers and Mothers, to pass on blessings to their children especially so that they remember their blessing. There is a divine blessing that comes with honoring parents. Exo20; 12

Be careful of sarcasm even words spoken in fun, for we will one day have to give an account - because our words have power over life or death in them. Choose to speak blessings and life, not curses and death. Mt12: 36.

If you have received forgiveness of sins through Christ and so are born again, you are released from the curse of eternal separation from God, your sins are forgiven. But that does not mean that you do not sin and that others do not sin against you, or that you are protected from all curses.

We need to reverse effects of curses in our lives. If self-imposed, for example saying, “I’m so stupid” or said by others –‘You’re so stupid,’ then cancel the power of those words saying aloud something like this: “I’m not stupid. I’m God’s child. He made me smart.”

Repent of rebellion that has kept you from the place of blessing.
Believe Christ broke the power of curses on the cross by becoming a curse for you, that he has power to set you free from any curse.
Confess any sin committed in that curse
Confess aloud your forgiveness to the person who cursed you
Ask Christ to release you from all curses in your life, including ancestral. Receive [with faith] the freedom promised:

Release God’s Agape Love Rom5: 5.
Unconditional love releases God’s blessing. Love your enemies, those who have hurt, opposed and sinned against you.   It is possible for you to do this because God’s love is in your heart

Renew a Godly Attitude Mt5 – 7
Our attitude determines whether the rain will water the seeds of our harvest or wash them away. We need to ponder over the Beatitudes. Our attitude will determine our altitude. Know that godliness is profitable.

Realign Your Words with God’s Word
Exchange your negative thoughts, words and deeds for the positive. Let your words always be in line with God’s Word. Change your world by changing your words [free download on this website].

Realize God Accepts You the Way You Are
Jesus didn't come to condemn or punish you; he came to give you abundant life. He came to take away your burden of pain, hurt, shame, sorrow, or sickness. He hates the sin but he loves you just the way you are and has come to set you absolutely free. Will you accept it willingly?

Retain Your Walk of Obedience
You know God to the extent you know and obey his Word. You        must learn to walk in obedience to God's ways daily.

PRAYER TO BREAK THE CURSE

“Lord Jesus Christ, I believe You are the Son of God and the only way to God; and that you died on the cross for my sins and rose again from the dead. I give up all my rebellion and all my sin, and I submit myself to you as Lord. I confess all my sins and ask for your forgiveness – especially for any sins that exposed me to a curse. Release me also from the consequences of my ancestor’s sins.

By a decision of my will, I forgive all who have harmed me or wronged me – just as I want God to forgive me. In particular, I forgive… I renounce all contact with anything occult, and I cancel all Satan’s claims against me. Lord Jesus, I believe that on the cross You took on Yourself every curse that could ever come upon me. So I ask you now to release me from every curse over my life – in your name, Lord Jesus Christ! By faith I now receive my release and I thank you for it.” (Prayer by Derek Prince)

I cover myself and all my family members with the Blood of Jesus.

I apply the Blood Jesus shed at Gethsemane, over my mind
And I am free from the curse of mental torment

I apply the Blood Jesus shed at the Whipping Post
And I am free from the curse of sickness.

I apply the Blood Jesus shed for my iniquity,
And I am free from the curse of inherited weakness

I apply the Blood Jesus shed at his thorn-crowned brow
And I am free from the curse of poverty

I apply the Blood Jesus shed at his nail scarred hands
And I am free from the curse of Satan's dominion.

I apply the Blood Jesus shed from his nail scarred feet
And I am free from the curse of rejection.

I apply the Blood that Jesus shed at his spear-pierced side
And I am free the curse of broken heartedness

Plead the Blood of Jesus over the seven areas: - Will; Health; Prosperity; Dominion over things; Dominion over places you walk; Joy; Inner healing.

Jesus won back my Willpower at Gethsemane,
Jesus won back my Health by the Stripes he bore at the Whipping Post
Jesus won back my Prosperity when he wore the Crown of Thorns
Jesus’ pierced hands won back my Dominion over things touched
Jesus' pierced feet won back my Dominion over places I Walk
Jesus' pierced heart won back my Joy
Jesus' bruises won my Deliverance from Inner Hurts and Iniquities

I am healed spirit, soul and body. I live in vibrant health. I have supernatural strength. I am rich. I have authority in the Name of Jesus and full rights as a son. I am accepted. I have peace for he will never leave nor forsake me. I am free from the curse, enjoying the blessings that makes rich and adds no sorrow. I am overjoyed!
